Just imagine: a powerful EMP (Electromagnetic pulse) either from the sun or from an enemy above us has just struck your country. Suddenly, with no warning, all power is gone. No more electricity. Forget having a heater or air conditioner. They won’t work. All electronics now fail, including your cell phone, electronic watch, laptop, all your phones and landlines, everything you have in your house that is electronic no longer work. In fact, your water supply is disrupted. You can’t get any water from the taps. Your toilet won’t flush. Your showers don’t turn on. The garage door doesn’t work. Your car won’t start. No lights work. ALL appliances – fridge, stove, microwave, washer and dryer – don’t work. What do YOU do? Can you function? Food stores have been ransacked. Crime has skyrocketed as people search for food and water and steal whatever they can to survive.
This doesn’t have to be from an EMP. It can be caused by an F5 tornado, a Cat 5 hurricane like Hurricane Melissa which just pulverized Jamaica. Perhaps you’re hit with a super powerful Richter scale 9 or 10 earthquake, or a huge volcanic eruption in Yellowstone that affects the whole country and eventually the whole world.
What would you do? Compound the misery if your house is also totally demolished in the huge disaster I’ve just described. I’m fairly certain what I’ve just described could happen to you and to me. It’s already happened over the years to thousands hit by devastating hurricanes, floods and tornadoes and it can happen to any of us.
Please don’t misunderstand my title. Our MAIN preparation should always be spiritual, by forming intimate closeness to our God and Savior and the spiritual outlook to have. In the end, all the physical preparation and readiness in the world will not help you and me IF we’re not close to God when the very end of the end times start. Our only protection at that time will be by having faith in God’s hands and even trusting his protection and love – even, if God so wills, to supernaturally transport us to the place He’s prepared in the wilderness for the Woman (Rev 12:13-17), where she’s nourished and protected by God. That’s another topic.
But for serious disasters and emergencies that last for just last days or weeks, being prepared is not showing fear, but showing you’re smart. It can mean the difference between severely suffering or even dying -- versus getting through a tough time alright. It makes a lot of sense.
So there are things we should do and can do. We shouldn’t be unprepared for more and more disasters and eventually even the worst time of trouble the planet has ever gone through that are coming. We are definitely seeing more strong earthquakes. There are warnings of perhaps huge volcanic eruptions in the Northwestern USA and Yellowstone.
If those happen, the catastrophe could be immeasurable. There’s evidence that even the infamous San Andreas Fault in CA may be shifting a bit. The same goes for the Madras fault line in Missouri, Tennessee area.
God will protect those who are zealous for Him. But it’s still worthwhile being prepared as much as we can. This will also help us help others better too, right?
Here are some ideas to ponder.
The main things we’ll need to stay alive – besides an intimate closeness to God – in this order, are clean pure WATER, FOOD and POWER (electrical, wood, propane, etc) to cook and to keep things going and then having some essential survival items. How long could you last right now if you have no more access to any water?
WATER: I know some people who claim they’ve fasted without food or water for a week. Don’t try it that long. Most people can’t live more than three or four days without any liquids. Some very strong people, in moderate climates, not too active, could maybe last 4-5 days. But for those in hot climates and very active, survival may only be two days. But before dying, if you have no water, a lot of damage is already happening after three or four days especially to your brain and kidneys.
Those who fasted for weeks on end were fasting from food but must have had some water or liquids or broth. They could not have survived many weeks without water. Esther and her court DID fast without food or water for thee days (Esther 4:15-16). Jesus fasted for forty days, but personally I think he must have had water and was fasting from food. Either that, or His Father supernaturally sustained him. So don’t try that. You and I cannot go forty days with NO food and water. Don’t try it. Long before the forty days, your organs will all be irreparably damaged before you die.
Moses was also on the fiery top of Mt Sinai for forty days without food and water. He surely was miraculously sustained by God. Exodus 34:26 “So he was there with YHVH forty days and forty nights; he neither ate bread nor drank water. And He wrote on the tablets the words of the covenant, the Ten Commandments.”
MY POINT is: we all must have access to pure water constantly. That’s one reason we are doing as much as possible to provide water filters to our brethren in East Africa so they can have pure uncontaminated water to drink. (Yes, we’d love your help to get this done.) In total power failures, even your tap and well water can go dry or be turned off. Having drinking water is more vital even than having food.
If you can’t find any tap water, don’t have a well for well water, and your car won’t even run – what will you do? Where will you find drinking water? Think seriously about this and try to find a solution NOW that will last you at least a few weeks.
I try to keep five 5-gallon containers full of water at all times. If you know a disaster is on the way (Hurricane, for example) or if one has just happened, if you still have tap water, fill up your BATH TUB. Store shelves will long by then be emptied of bottled water. We have to prepare well ahead of time. But filling your bathtub will give you about 40-45 gallons of water.
I also have a fifty gallon RAIN BARREL that collects water from the gutters. Keep those from mold and other issues by putting in some bleach or replacing the water from time to time. Kenyans need to find ways to collect water in your dry months.
BEYOND that, we have some Water Purifiers we use our home – like Zero Water or Brita brands you can buy from Amazon or in many stores. They run about $35-$45 apiece. Frankly, we even run our tap water through it, as it takes out chlorine and all other chemicals, plus bacteria, heavy metals and other contaminants that could even be in supposedly clean tap water.
Also check out SAWYER and LIFE STRAW brands for ways to drink water from rivers or ponds safely. The run $25-$40 each on Amazon. These will all be sold out if you wait until a huge disaster strikes. Be buying these water supplies now.
You can also buy systems that connect directly to your tap so “water from the tap” has been extra-purified. Be sure you have some water purifying TABLETS, or pills, on hand. In emergency this could save your life if you have to take water from a lake or pond or puddles of water. I have several small bottles of “POTABLE AQUA water purification germicidal tablets” I keep on hand and some in the car. These will kill any germs, bacteria, viruses but it won’t make any brown water look better.
One more thing: many of us could probably be drinking more water than we do even now. Our bodies badly need more pure, clean water.
FOOD
The NEXT ISSUE is having enough FOOD to survive before the emergencies hit. Have some canned or bottled foodstuffs you are keeping in dry, cool places. Be using them up gradually too of course, and replacing with new items. Buy bags of rice, beans, lentils, coffee, olive oil and cooking oils, peanut butter, cereals, even powdered milk or powdered eggs – food that can sustain you when all the store shelves are empty. Buy these NOW before everyone empties the stores.
You can also buy several months’ supply of food that purportedly can last over 20 years, from MyPatriotSupply.com They’ve been advertising a lot. Check them out. We have. They also have survival gear, food supplies, heating and cooling options in power outages, etc. They have more than just survival food. If you lose power, your freezer and fridge food will be spoiled. So have other backup food.
POWER SUPPLY
You’ll need to be able to keep your freezer and fridge going if you can, as that also affects the other point about having food. I bought A SOLAR POWERED GENERATOR – as we may not be able to buy more gasoline to power up and fuel our usual gasoline-powered generator if the power outage is widespread. I have a gas powered one too, with some reserve gasoline (petrol), but it’s wise to get a solar powered generator if you can, like from MyPatriotSupply.com
You may not call yourself a “prepper” – but just make sure, without delay, you have some backup options ready to go, as emergencies often give no warning\
I also have outside solar powered lights that come on in the dark for yard décor – but they could be used to provide light in the house too if we lose all electricity.
We also have a PROPANE powered barbecue – with extra bottles of propane on hand, so we can keep cooking without electricity. Many of you could probably use wood stoves or wood fires to cook also. Just be thinking all this through now.
Of course have lots of TP – toilet paper. Do you remember the run on toilet paper in 2020? Now’s the time to store up extra packs of TP, Tissue and paper towels.
THEN add the USUAL LIST OF EMERGENCY SUPPLIES you should have on hand right now. Most of this would be most helpful in limited time emergencies.
Do a Google search for EMERGENCY PREPAREDNESS and see what you can learn.
Essentials: Batteries, First aid kits, flashlights, lanterns, lots of small candles, rope, paracord, multitools, have basic tools (saw, pliers, screwdrivers, hammer) or a “multi-tool.” Solar chargers. Everyone should have a solar powered POWER BANK – so it can charge up dead cell phones.
A BIKE could be very handy when your car won’t start or if you can’t buy gas.
Here are a few more considerations:
- Your medications.
- Backup heating – maybe get a kerosene heater, with some kerosene on hand.
- I have a crank radio that requires no batteries, just crank it up so we can get the latest NOA reports or government and weather news.
- Water purifying tablets, for sure.
- Be sure your safe is an “old fashioned” mechanical one that requires no electronics to open.
I’m sure some will think of all kinds of other things that should be on this list.
I’d love to hear from you and get your comments. Are you ready?
If tomorrow at 2 a.m., you’ve lost all power, lost all heating and cooling, no electricity, no tap water working, cars won’t start, all appliances are off and not working, will you be ready? Don’t delay applying this blog!
But frankly, even after saying all this, when we come to the worst time the world has ever seen, there will likely be times we will have to move out fast, right now, when God somehow gives us his word to get moving! DO IT. Don’t be like Lot who seemed to dither a bit before acting on the angels’ commands to get going. For those in Judea, there’s coming a time when they must not even go back for their jacket (or cell phone!) — but just head for hills at once (read Luke 17:26-36).
Remember, if you’re being tracked by God’s enemies, your cell phone will help them track you. So just get out.
Also check out my other blog on does God ever cause natural disasters. Or is everything “bad” that happens always come from Satan?
But don’t just get ready, especially in seeking after GOD, but BE ready.
Matthew 24:44 “Therefore you also BE ready, for the Son of Man is coming at an hour you do not expect.”
