Science in the Bible
Many people think the Bible was just written by men thousands of years ago. But it may surprise you how amazingly scientific the Scriptures are. Of course, the Creator inspired its writing. In fact, we’re told that every wordin the original copies at least – was “God-breathed” (that’s what the Greek means) -- 2 Timothy 3:16. In so many cases our Father’s Word reveals knowledge that wouldn’t be understood by everyday mankind until thousands of years after the Bible was written.
Certainly the “signature of God” is written all around us in His creation. He is the ultimate Scientist, the unequaledArtist. The more you look at what God has touched, the more reverent you will be of His great power. I believe it takes far more faith to believe in godless evolution than to believe in our awesome Creator, the Great Designer and Architect of everything that is out there. Whether you thrill over the pictures coming back from the Hubble telescope or peer into the world seen only with powerful microscopes, God’s hand is everywhere.
Let’s take a look at a few of the many examples of Science in the Bible.
The ancients – especially those of other religions – believed the earth was supported on the back of a turtle, or on the back of Atlas of Greek mythology or other such nonsense. But God’s Word teaches nothing of the kind.
“He stretches out the north over empty space;
He hangs the earth on nothing.
He binds up the water in His thick clouds,
Yet the clouds are not broken under it.”
For thousands of years before scientists discovered it, Scripture told us the earth hangs on nothing.
Scientists have known for decades, since Edwin Hubble discovered this information in 1929, that the universe is continuing to expand. But most astronomers assumed the universewas surely expanding ever more slowly over time. But in 1998, with the Hubble telescope and its discoveries, we learned the universe is actually expanding ever faster! But what force is pulling it outward? There was no explanation. Finally scientists decided to name it “Dark Energy”. They can’t see it, but they can see its effects! More is still unknown about Dark Energy than what we know.
In fact, the vast majority of the universe is made up of Dark Energy and Dark Matter – neither of which we can see! You can Google it and learn about it. The evidence is clearly there that most of what is in the universe is not visible. And we know that something is holding the vast universe together, though we can’t see it either. Our great Creator inspired Paul to say this very thing 2,000 years ago:
“By faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God, so that the things which are seen were not made of things which are visible.”
We also know that “something” is holding the universe together. Scientists can’t quite explain exactly what that “something” is, however, for it is also invisible.
Your Savior—Yes, Yeshua (Jesus) -- is the one who holds the creation together. Isn’t He powerful and amazing? Praise you, Yeshua!
“He is before all things, and by Him all things hold together.” (Holman version)
CJB says “He existed before all things, and HE holds everything together.”

Isaiah speaks of “stretching out” the heavens. So did Job, long before Isaiah. Remember the universe is continuing to stretch out – to expand.
“He alone spreads out the heavens, And treads on the waves of the sea (as Yeshua demonstrated later, to show HE is the one who can do it as God-in-the-flesh); He made the Bear, Orion, and the Pleiades, And the chambers of the south.”
We know today that the earth is round, though just a few hundred years ago, this was debated.
“It is He who sits above the CIRCLE of the earth,
And its inhabitants are like grasshoppers,
Who stretches out the heavens like a curtain,
And spreads them out like a tent to dwell in.”
“He drew a circular horizon on the face of the waters,
At the boundary of light and darkness.”
“Who cover Yourself with light as with a garment,
Who stretch out the heavens like a curtain.”
For more verses about stretching out the heavens, see also Isaiah 44:24; 51:13.
How about some more?
It took us until 1977 to discover there are springs of water at the bottom of the deepest oceans. Look what Yah asked Job:
"Have you entered the springs of the sea? Or have you walked in search of the depths?”
We know the earth revolves around the sun. Did you know the sun also is moving? A lot of people don’t know that. The sun itself and this solar system are moving at 600,000 mph around the center of our galaxy. Could David have been referring to this by inspiration? Could our galaxy be “the tabernacle for the sun”? He refers to the sun having a circuit to the other end… let’s read it.
“In them [the heavens – verse 1] He has set a tabernacle for the sun,
Which is like a bridegroom coming out of his chamber,
And rejoices like a strong man to run its race.
Its rising is from one end of heaven,
And its circuit to the other end;
And there is nothing hidden from its heat.”
There’s more. The water cycle is certainly openly taught in scripture.
When He utters His voice, there is a multitude of waters in the heavens:
"And He causes the vapors to ascend from the ends of the earth.
He makes lightning for the rain; He brings the wind out of His treasuries."
“He who builds His layers in the sky, and has founded His strata in the earth;
Who calls for the waters of the sea, and pours them out on the face of the earth —
YHWH is His name.”
“For He draws up drops of water, which distill as rain from the mist,
Which the clouds drop down and pour abundantly on man.”
One more thing: the concept that everything in the universe is really made up of time, space and matter – visible and invisible – is clearly spelled out in Scripture. And what’s more amazing is that our Savior – the one who became Yeshua (Jesus) has complete mastery and dominion over time, space and matter. It’s all there in the first verse of the Bible. Sometime I should give an entire sermon on Genesis 1:1 because there is SO MUCH packed into that verse, especially when you study the original Hebrew letters, words and “Word Pictures” in that first verse.
“In the beginning (Time) God created the heavens (space) and the earth (matter).”
Your Savior – your older brother – Yeshua is his name. It means Salvation. He breathed the universe into existence by his words. He is the Great Creator. He knows all the trillions of stars by name. And He knows everything about you as well. Praise be to Yeshua and to His Father and our Father – Abba, God Most High.
Be watching out for those who attempt to remove our Creator from his creation. Some refer to “mother earth”. No, it’s not “mother earth” – but we have a Father God whose Son created everything we see and touch and much more. Don’t succumb to using words like “evolved”. No, no – there’s creation, not evolution. There’s order and beauty. Our wonderful planet did not just happen to come along with everything working together so perfectly. No my brothers and sisters: we have a God who created all things. His name is YHVH, sometimes shortened in Scripture to “Yah” in the original Hebrew. HE is our Maker. (See my blog on “Who is Yah?”)
“I am YHVH, that is My name;
And My glory I will not give to another,
Nor My praise to carved images.”
"The heavens declare the glory of God;
“The heavens declare the glory of God;
And the firmament shows His handiwork.”
We glorify you, Master, who created all things. We worship you, Abba – our dear Father – as we bow down and acknowledge you as Supreme. And we do have an awesome friend in Yeshua, our Savior and brother. He is so great, so powerful. He is not the effeminate pale skinny fellow with long hair you often see depicted. Oh no, the true Yeshua is the very Creator Himself, awesome in glory, power and might – and amazing in his love and mercy. That’s who came to personally save you. Accept him as your personal Savior. See and experience him personally – as Paul said about Yeshua: “who loved ME and gave himself for ME” (Galatians 2:20).
“God, who at various times and in various ways spoke in time past to the fathers by the prophets, 2 has in these last days spoken to us by His Son, whom He has appointed heir of all things, through whom also He made the worlds…”
Yeshua, we know everything that has been made and created was breathed into existence by your breath, by the words of your mouth. You ARE “the Word of God”, the living Word. You spoke and they were created. Psalm 148:5.
